SEPT. '99 PRESIDENT's CORNER
By Ron Gibby

Well, we’re about to enter a new technology era thanks to Bob McDougall and Steve Sterling. Bob had a great idea: why not send the club newsletter over the Internet; it’s not only faster, it also will save the club some money. Bob shared his idea with Steve who then figured out how to make it happen. The end result---- if you’re on the Internet, you can now printout the newsletter from the club web page as soon as it’s posted each month. It will look just like the newsletter that will be mailed to those not on the Internet. As a first estimate, it appears that this idea will save the club about $150 a year in publishing and mailing costs. That figure can go even higher if more club members choose to use the Internet to receive their newsletter. As an added benefit, anyone with access to the Internet can view and printout our newsletter, therefore, we won’t have to send copies to other clubs once they know our web site address. Thanks, Bob and Steve, for your extra efforts!

Club elections will take place in November. It’s time to be thinking about whom you want to nominate to serve as club officers for the year 2000. Be sure you get permission from your potential nominees before presenting their names at the November meeting. We don’t want to elect someone who is not willing or able to serve to the extent required.

We will be decommissioning our Finley Flying Field in the near future. To commemorate this solemn occasion John Hanson has planned a Finley Field Final Flyin for September 18, 1999. There will be free food and drink and a final opportunity to scuff some wing tips and break some props on the asphalt runway. We will also discuss what needs to be done before we return the site to the Kennewick Irrigation District. Please plan on attending this fun and nostalgic activity.

Finally, thanks to John Hanson who did a great job as CD for the Biplane Flyin last month. Quite a few of the 15 participants were from out of town and seemed to be enjoying the day’s activities as much as the rest of us. Yours truly made several flights with my Great Planes Super Aeromaster without inflicting any major damage on landing, which is quite a feat for me with that plane.

Until next month, happy flying.
