OCT.'99
PRESIDENT's CORNER
By Ron Gibby
The election of Club Officers for the year 2000 will take place at the November meeting. Nominations for Club Officers will be accepted at the October meeting. Just a reminder, be sure you have permission from your nominee to present his name and that he is willing and/or able to serve to the extent required.
Thanks to John Hanson for organizing a Final Fly-in at Finley. It was a fun and somewhat nostalgic event for the few that were able to attend. As I predicted, I scuffed both wing tips and busted a $14.00 APC prop on my first and only flight attempt with my Midwest Citabria. That little experience reminded me of why I’m so glad we have the ORV Park field! Grass compared to asphalt is so gentle on your plane for those less-than-perfect take-offs and landings.
Thanks to The Chief and those who helped him for a great Final Fling Fly-in activity. Although I couldn’t attend it sounds like everyone there had a great time. After hearing about all of the crashes that occurred I’m thinking maybe next year we should come up with a different name that isn’t so prophetic.
Thanks to all who organized the October Float Fly at the Y. Unfortunately, my Cub wasn’t ready so I couldn’t fly but those that did couldn’t have asked for a better day. The weatherman had predicted wind but it never materialized so it was a fly-all-you-want day.
Finally, one item of business. Although this has not been a problem, I want to remind everyone that alcoholic beverages are not allowed at our ORV Park flying site. Drinking and flying is not permitted by the AMA safety rules and, in addition, alcoholic beverages are not allowed by the City of Richland at the ORV Park. Consequently, in addition to being a safety problem, drinking at the flying field could jeopardize our contract with the City of Richland. Enough said. If you bring guests to the field please make sure they know that booze is not allowed.
Until next month, happy flying.
