PRESIDENT's
CORNER
By Ron Gibby
October 1998
Another fantastic month of flying! I keep telling myself this weather can't last much longer. The Sod Farm (alias the RV park flying field) is looking great again! The bare spots which resulted from lack of water during a summer hot spell are nearly filled in with new grass.
You should be getting your 1999 membership renewal notice from the AMA in the mail. Mine came near the end of September. If you plan to renew your AMA membership I encourage you to send in your membership fee as soon as possible. Remember that you can't fly at the club fields unless you are a member of the AMA. The Club Treasurer will check with the AMA near the end of December to determine who in our Club has renewed their membership. A list of Club members who are 1999 AMA members will be posted at the fields in early January. Also remember that the Polar Bear fun fly is January 1, 1999. Only 1999 AMA members can Fly their planes on that day. Those who have not paid will not be allowed to fly at the club fields in 1999 until they can provide proof that they are current AMA members. The Club contracts with the City of Richland and the Corp of Engineers require AMA membership to use the sites; we don't want to jeopardize those contracts..... enough said.
Thanks to George Vargo for all his efforts in putting on the final float fly of the year. George, you did a great job! Because of conflicting flying events in the area and uncertainty in the weather the turnout was rather disappointing. Those who did attend had a good time and excellent food.
It's time to start thinking about who you want to nominate for your club officers for 1999. If you want to nominate someone please be sure to check with them first to make sure they will be willing to serve if elected. Election of officers will take place at our regular club meeting on November 18.
