JUNE '00 PRESIDENT's CORNER
By Ron Gibby

At our last meeting it was proposed that the membership fee for junior members be 50% of that charged for a regular Individual membership. It was further purposed that the definition for a person eligible for a Junior membership should include any full-time student 24 years old or younger with a permanent residency in the greater Tri-City area. This proposed change to the club By-Laws is published in this edition of the Newsletter and will be voted on at the next club meeting. The purpose of this change is to help those younger club members that aren’t working full-time and are a little short of money to still be able to participate fully in our club.

Everyone circle Friday, July 21, 2000 on your calendar. On that day between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM we will host our annual Fun Day for the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) at the ORV Park flying field. Bill Greger instigated this activity three years ago and under his direction it has grown into an activity that members of the ARC eagerly look forward to each year. In the past we have only entertained the children of the ARC, however, this year we have also invited adult members. This is a big undertaking and it will take everyone’s best effort to make it a success. Please contact Bill at 735-3877 and let him know that you are willing and able to help. Those that call early may have some choice in their assignment, but rest assured that all assignments are important to a successful event. This is our big charity event of the year. Typically we have more than forty members participate, so come join the crowd, WE NEED YOU! We need set-up and cleanup helpers, crowd controllers, hot dog and drink servers, and skilled demo-flyers with fancy planes, just to name a few areas where your help is needed.

Thanks to Fred Fisher (and Betty) for all of his efforts as contest director for our Big Bird Fly-in held June 10. The wind tried to spoil the event again, like it did last year, but most of the fifteen participants that were present were able to get in at least one flight during the day. The second day of the event was canceled when the weather forecast predicted strong winds and the possibility of rain on Sunday (As it turned out the wind never materialized but it was cloudy). I think we’re long past due for some good flying weather in June.

Until next month, happy flying. (For comments or questions about the club please contact me by phone at 946-5356 or by Email at
