'00 PRESIDENT's
CORNER
By Ron Gibby
I’m happy to announce that our club officers for 2001 will consist of the following:
Gordon Anderson, President; Jerry Wallis, Vice President; Doug Larson, Secretary; and Rick Magnuson, Treasurer.
It has been an honor and a privilege to be the Club president for the last several years. I wish to thank Jerry Wallis, Rick Magnuson, and Clee Childress for all of their work on your behalf as members of the outgoing presidency. I now look forward to mostly building and flying. I am satisfied that we were able to accomplish most of the goals outlined in the 5-Year Plan that was put in place when I first took office. This was done through the hard work of many club members, and I thank you for your many efforts. There are still things that can be done to further improve our flying facility and our club. To this end we need to support our new club officers as they now take the reins.
Last month a fancy new sun shade structure suddenly appeared at our field. Terry Hane designed this sun shade and provided a cost estimate to the club for its construction. Expenditures of club funds for construction of the sun shade were approved at a club meeting. Terry also took the lead in ordering materials and in building the structure. I want to thank Terry for all of his efforts in providing the club with this much needed addition to our flying site, while at the same time keeping the costs within his original estimate. I also want to thank Dennis Cone and Lee Brooks, who along with Terry, were the major players during the construction phase. Thanks also to Fred Fisher and Jerry Wallis, who helped out on construction as they were able.
I’m pleased to announce that the club received an award from the Radio Control Hobby Trade Association for the amount of $200. Our award was for the publicity we received from media coverage of the ARC Fun Day that was held during the summer.
This month you will receive the new combination for the ORV flying field if your AMA and Club dues have been paid for 2001. The lock combinations will be changed December 31, 2000. On January 1, 2001 only AMA/Club members will be eligible to fly at the field. Those that receive the new lock combination should not share it with others. The use of our field for flying model planes by those who are not covered by AMA insurance is not allowed by the City of Richland and could jeopardize Club use of the facility.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the Polar Bear Fun Fly on January 1, 2001. This is one of the best attended events of the year. I’m not sure why, maybe it’s all of the good food or maybe it’s just the challenge of flying on a chilly day in January. I also look forward to seeing everyone and their significant other at our Annual Holiday Dinner Meeting at 6:00 P.M. on January 13, 2001 at Roy’s Chuckwagon. This meeting provides an opportunity to meet and congratulate the new Club presidency, who will be officially installed during the meeting portion of the banquet.
Finally, thanks, Bob, for a great tenure as our fearless club Newsletter Editor! I appreciate all of your hard work over the past several years to bring us a great newsletter each month.
