AUGUST '99
PRESIDENT's CORNER
By Ron Gibby
Recently there has been some confusion concerning locking the outer gate at the Richland ORV Park field, so I talked with Barry Peters, our contact with the City of Richland. Barry told me that nothing has changed as far as the City is concerned. Both gates to the field should be locked when no one is at the field. When the field is being used, the outer gate can be left open. The inner gate can only be left open when the ORV Park is also open (the ORV Park hours change monthly so check the schedule posted on the bulletin board at the field). And remember, as always THE LAST ONE OUT LOCKS UP!
In the future, any changes to Club operating guidelines should not be made unless first authorized by the Club Executive Committee. Generally, that authorization would not be given until first discussed with the club members at a monthly meeting. If proposed changes are acceptable to club members they will be published in the club newsletter before implementation. If we follow this procedure, it will avoid a lot of confusion and also help make the Club President look like he knows whats going on (if thats possible).
Congratulations to our Pattern Jocks who went to Eugene, Oregon the first weekend in August and showed the other contestants how to fly straight lines and round loops. Terry Hane placed first in Masters, Bill Bowen placed first in Advanced while Rob Opgenorth had to settle for second, and Brett Bowen finished second in Intermediate, missing first by ½ point out of 6000. Way to fly! Congratulations also to Don Hall who placed fourth in Sportsman at the Scale Masters Qualifier in Portland, Oregon (if the picture in our Club webpage is correct). Way to go, Don! Finally, congratulations to John Hanson who made some fantastic buys at the Boeing Surplus Store in Seattle (Kent?) and hasnt crashed a plane for several months, as far as I know. As I understand it, John has time to build planes to sell now that he hasnt had to spend time rebuilding his Corsair.
Well, hopefully the hottest of the hot weather is behind us now so get those planes ready to fly again. There will be no excuses.
Until next month, happy flying.
