AUGUST
2001 PRESIDENT's CORNER
By Gordon Anderson
I would like to thank a number of people for their support. Our clubs main purpose is to keep and maintain our flying site. This may seem like a pretty simple task, it looks this way because we have club members working very hard keeping things on track. Let me start by thanking Dave Phipps for his efforts to keep the grass green. Dave has been fertilizing the field, mowing the tall grass and spending lots of time with the city trying to resolve the watering problem. I’m happy to report the water problem seems to be resolved. This would not have been possible without Dave’s support. He has met with the city, at the field, several times in the last couple of months and these efforts have paid off! Thanks Dave!
Next, thank you to Doug Larson. Doug has been taking care of the mowers and supporting the field watering problems. I have been at the field, flying, on several occasions when Doug came to the field found a couple of things that needed to be done, and then spent his time performing the maintenance instead of flying! Dave and Doug have done the TCRCM a great service this summer and I really appreciate their support!
During the last month we have had several events that required support from the membership and I would like to acknowledge this support. John Hanson and Glenn Ball took their war birds to Spokane to display and provided flying demos at the Fairchild Airforce Base air show.
Ted Tanasse and his wife Bonnie, Dave and Ryan Phipps, my wife Meri and myself supported the Yakima Valley Aero Modelers at the Yakima Folk Life Festival in July. This involved helping kids build Sig Delta-Dart rubber-powered models. I think we built about 180 Delta-Darts over that weekend.
We again supported the airshow in Pasco the last week of July, the event was held on a Wednesday night and we had an excellent turn out. Thanks to Val Ballard, Lee Brooks, Marv Calkins, John Hanson, Greg McFadden, Doug Larson, Del Nichols, Ron Wright, (I hope I did not forget anyone??), and the support of spouses. Thanks to George Vargo and the helicopter guys for setting up the great spot for our display, and a big thanks to my wife Meri, for delivering all the tickets to the club members!
I received a call from Terry Hudson of the Tri-City Herald last week and he met with a lot of modelers at the field this last week. I do not have the member’s names but I understand we were well represented and I’m anxious to see the article. I would like to thanks those who went to the field to represent us and I would also like to give a big thanks to Steve Sterling. Steve is the reason this event happened, Terry told me he was looking at our web site and got interested in doing an article on the TCRCM. The web site is a big asset of the TCRCM and we have Steve to thank for this support. This is a heroic effort and we all need to thank Steve for his support.
And the last person I would like to thank is Bill Greger for his efforts with the ARC project. I’m writing this the weekend of the ARC event and it was another big success. Lots of club members helped support this project and the kids had a great time. Thanks you to all that came out to help Bill. Bill said he served 180 hot dogs so that will give you an idea how many kids participated. I have missed lots of people and I will try to acknowledge more people next month, I’m very grateful for your support, it makes my job fun and easy. It’s an honor to be associated with the great bunch of guys that make up the TCRCM!
