PRESIDENT's
CORNER
By Ron Gibby
Too darn hot! The heat and vacation has kept me from getting in the amount of flying I need to retain any competency. Now I have to learn to fly again.
The hot weather has taken a toll on our field as well. Water problems right at the peak of a hot spell resulted in some bad burning of the grass. Thanks to the extra efforts of Gordon Downing (City of Richland) the amount of damage was minimized, but it is still significant. I'm sure the burned areas will recover but it will take some time.
Thanks to Terry Hane, Ron McMahan, Larry Mitchell and all those who have spent extra effort on the RV Park field this past month. Terry and Ron moved the canopy to a better location and fastened it down firmly to the ground. Terry installed a new Sprinkler on the far side of the field. This sprinkler will direct the water to the field instead of a full circle, giving us better water use. The purchase of the new sprinkler head was included in this year's budget. Larry put up a new wind direction meter. It works well and looks nice. Larry, whose wrecked CAP 21 did you convert to a weather vane? Does McMahan know about the crash?
A special thanks to Frank and Terry Hirsch. They installed a much needed second gate for entrance into the RV Park field. The gate was furnished by Terry Hane. The new gate is called the Frank and Son Commemorative Gate. Please remember to check and lock both gates before leaving the field. There has already been at least one report of the new gate being left wide open for a day.
It's now official. The Club member present at the July meeting unanimously voted that there will be no driving on the grass at the the RV park field except by special permission from the Club President. A sign will be posted and the club rules and regulations will be modified. In most cases, driving on the grass will be limited to one or two vehicles required for special events.
Remember that the inner gate must be locked when the ORV Park is closed, but we can leave the outer gate open when we are using the field.

Happy Flyin'.
