OCT. '98 MEETING MINUTES
By Bob McDougall

The meeting was called to order by President Ron Gibby at 7 PM, with approximately 17 members and no guests present. The previous meeting’s Minutes were approved as published. Clee Childress was not present so no Treasurer’s report was presented.

OLD BUSINESS

The October 17th ‘Final Fling’ fun fly was judged a big success, with 26 entries. Event photos were available on the TCRCM web page shortly afterward, thanks to Steve Sterling.

Dennis Cone agreed to coordinate the construction of the ORV site storage shed. Larry Mitchell reported that Rodger Bumpaous may be able to provide the necessary concrete for the foundation; approximately 3 cubic yards will be required.

Ron Gibby proposed two changes to the club By-laws, which were discussed and approved. The revised club Field/Safety rules were also approved as previously published.

Ron reminded all present that their AMA memberships should be renewed as soon as possible, since 1999 AMA membership will be required for participation in the club’s 2nd annual Polar Bear fun fly on January 1st.

NEW BUSINESS

Lyle Laughery has agreed to be event coordinator for the coming year. He will work with the club’s various CDs regarding event scheduling and AMA sanctions. Event dates must be selected before the Puyallup Model Expo.

Terry Hane recommended minor changes to the position of the safety barrier between the pit area and the flying area, specifically to move the barrier 10 ft. closer to the runway. After a lengthy discussion, Terry’s recommended changes were approved by a narrow margin. Terry also noted that one of the existing sprinkler heads appears to be convertible from its existing ‘full circle’ mode to a sector-type. Terry agreed to check out the cost of the conversion and will report at a later time.

Rob Opgenorth complimented the coordinators of the ‘Final Fling’ fun fly and proposed that the club consider another informal pylon event of some kind. Bill Greger offered to pursue the possibility.

John Hanson noted that he recently suffered minor injuries and the destruction of part of his wardrobe due to the use of polypropylene rope as a safety restraint while testing an engine. John strongly recommended that poly rope not be used, due to its self-loosening characteristics.

Since the November meeting will include election of  TCRCM officers for 1999, Ron Gibby opened the floor to nominations for each of the four positions. The following members were nominated:

President: Ron Gibby

Vice President: Lyle Laughery

Secretary: Jerry Wallis (declined the nomination)

Treasurer: Clee Childress

Additional nominations will be accepted at the November meeting prior to the actual election; prospective candidates must concur with their nomination beforehand.

The meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM.
