Oct. '00 MEETING MINUTES
By Rick Magnuson

President Ron Gibby called the meeting to order with 23 members present.

President Ron thanked John Hanson for heading up the Final Fling Fun Fly. Also thanked were Dennis Cone and Terry Hane for the completion of the ORV field’s electrical hook up.

The August non-meeting minutes were approved as published in The Leading Edge.

It was noted that if the Club is to continue to use the Country Squire clubhouse, a new source of obtaining access is needed. There were two suggestions: ask the condo association president if we could be provided a key given our long use of the facilities or inquiry if emeritus member Swede Carlson could provide access.

The Treasurer gave his report. The Club’s finances are in good shape. The membership stands at 71 members. The 2000 events were financial successful in that, when combined together, the Club had a positive balance, i.e., the Club made a few bucks.

A reminder was made that the Club now requires a current AMA card in order to fly – no more grace periods. So if a member wants to fly on or after January 1, 2001, the member MUST have a 2001 AMA card. Bottom line is to return the AMA renewal soon!

Terry Hane asked that we "move around" at the ORV field this fall, i.e., don’t set up in the pits at the same spot each time. Instead, move to a different spot. This will maintain the grass before winter.

John Hanson reported that all "had fun" at the Final Fling Fun Fly.

Nominations of 2001 Club officers were proposed by President Gibby. They are:

Gordon Anderson then nominated Dave Phipps for President. Additional nominations may be made at the November meeting. The November meeting will also include the elections.

A tentative 2001 event schedule was presented by John Hanson. After some discussion, the schedule and CDs for the events thus far are:

The pattern contest date is open as the last year’s date caused many flyers to bypass our event due to other events close to ours, including the Nats. Dennis will work with the District Coordinator to get a date that will not conflict with other pattern events and not held in the hotter portion of the summer. The big bird event was changed to a one-day event from last year’s two-day format. CDs are still needed for two events.

There was a discussion on event prizes. Major points were: add prizes to the annual budget; use non-airplane-related prizes and that CDs should turn in there sanctions early as it greatly facilitates prize donations. A prize committee will be formed after Bill Greger nominated Larry Mitchell to head it up. The vote was favorable in Larry heading up the committee.

Larry Mitchell asked what the Club feeling was about participating at Puyallup with a booth. After some discussion, it was decided to make the final decision at the November meeting.

Terry Hane presented a model of a sun shelter he fashioned from one he saw in California. It would be 18’x36’ structure that could be built under $2,000. Terry said that he would built it, if approve, as presented – any changes would halt his offer to construct. A motion was made by Bill Greger and seconded by Bill Bowen for $2,000 for materials and for Terry to build the sun shelter structure. The motion passed.

John Hanson described a plane holder used by the Miniature Aircraft Association and said that the holder’s builder would made them for our Club for about $7 - $8 each. Authorization was given for two holders to be purchased.

The meeting was adjourned.
