OCT. '99 MEETING MINUTES
By Rick Magnuson

President Ron Gibby called the meeting to order with 22 members present.

President Gibby gave thanks to the following club members: John Hanson for putting on the Final Finley Field Fly-In and for leading the decommissioning of the Finley Field, those members will made the decommissioning happen, Roger Grouell for his most generous contribution to offset decommissioning costs, Ron "Chief" McMahan for heading up the Final Fling Fun Fly and to the "Water Buffaloes" for putting on the Final Float plane Fly-In.

The September minutes were approved as published in The Leading Edge.

Treasurer Clee Childress gave his report.

The field locks have been replaced as several became non-operative and two spares are stored in the shed.

It was reported that the gate was left open. It was reiterated again that we all must be very diligent to be sure that all gates are locked when the field is not in use and the inner access gate must remain locked during ORV events. The remaining ORV events are for the next three Sundays – October 24th, October 31st and November 7th

The Northwest Model Expo in Puyallup will be held on February 5th and 6th, 2000. Larry Mitchell raised the question if the Club would want to have a booth and raffle again. A discussion about what to raffle came down to three items: a radio, a PC and a flight simulator. On a Don Hall motion, the Club voted to have the flight simulator, RealFlight, for the raffle.

Dennis Cone reported that the water will be turned off at the ORV flying site this Friday, October 22nd.

Under Old Business it was reported that Bill Peterson will head up the installation of electricity at the field. There was a discussion about electrical capacity, what size and type of wire to install, the possibility of being metered and charged and other questions about bringing electricity to the field. It was pointed out that Bill Peterson will cover all aspects of this project and obtain Club and City concurrence and that the discussion, while good, was premature.

On a motion made by Terry Hane and seconded by Rob Opgenorth, the Club voted to buy a spreader from Frank Hirsch for $125 plus a year 2000 membership. The Club had been using the spreader for most of 1999.

A discussion on increasing meeting attendance was held. In summary, the range of options were: twice a year raffle of an engine, more show n’ tells, technical sessions, make the meeting more fun, "if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it." No final decision was made.

John Hanson enumerated dates & events for 2000: May 13th Spring Fun Fly, June 10th & 11th Big Bird Fly-In, June 24th & 25th Float Plane Fly-In, July 8th & 9th, Pattern Contest, August 19th & 20th Bi-Plane Fly-In and October 7th Final Fling Fly-In. The ARC event will again be held mid-week in July.

Bill Greger said that he will contact insurance agents to see if we can obtain additional insurance for the ARC event since AMA will not insure the event. We have been using the City of Richland as the official sponsor and using the City’s coverage.

Terry Hane passed on comments that he had received regarding two day events. Some members felt that the attendance of some two day events did not justify closing the field to sport flying. A brief discussion followed without any motions being made.

Rob Opgenorth showed off a Club shirt to which he added on the front the Club logo, his name and title. Rob offered to make up similar iron-on attachments for other members. Rob also has made up business cards for the instructors, which can be given to prospective students.

Richard Roland will have his recovery boat, the U.S.S. Langley (thanks to Bill Greger), at the Richland Wye this Sunday, October 24th for Float Flying.

Nominations for 2000 Club Officers was held. Rob Opgenorth said we should keep the present slate. On motions made by Terry Hane and seconded by Rob Opgenorth, Ron Gibby was nominated for President, Paul Beebe for Vice-President and Rick Magnuson for Secretary. Jerry Wallis made a motion, seconded by Bill Bowen, for Clee Childress for Treasurer.

The meeting was adjourned.
