'00 MEETING MINUTES
By Rick Magnuson
President Ron Gibby called the meeting to order with 23 members present.
President Ron thanked Bob McDougall for being The Leading Edge newsletter editor for the past three years, putting out a very high quality newsletter that reflects positively on our Club.
Ted Tenasse has accepted the newsletter editor post for 2001. Thanks Ted.
The minutes of the October meeting was approved as published in The Leading Edge.
Clee Childress gave, as outgoing Treasurer, his final Treasurer’s report. Thanks Clee for keeping the Club’s books.
The sun shield building is coming along with Terry Hane as head "contractor." The layout has been made, post holds dug and posts set in. Total expenditures of $1,700 have been made against a budget of $2,000.
Ron Gibby noted that some locks might become "sticky" and not lock properly. Ron suggested setting the lock to the combination, pushing the shackle in and then spin the combination number wheels.
President Gibby gave the reminder that, in order to fly on or after January 1, 2001, AMA and Club dues need to be paid.
Lee Brooks was able to obtain a key to the meeting room allowing the Club President to open the room without being dependent upon a member of the condo. The Club had offered to pay $10 per meeting to the condo association. However, it is against the condo association by-laws to accept payment. The association suggested that the Club improve the facility such as adding a handicap access ramp or planting a tree. The Club will address an appropriate gift next year.
The 2001 Activity Schedule was presented to the membership for its approval. Only one change was made. The October Final Fling was moved to October 13th from October 6th. This was to accommodate a request from the MAA club as it has an event on the 6th. The approved schedule, with open dates for the ARC and pattern events, is:
January 1 Polar Bear
May 12 Spring Fun Fly
June 9 Big Bird Fly In
June 23-24 Float Plane Fly
ARC Fun Day pending communication with ARC group
Pattern Contest pending district coordination
August 18 Biplane Fly in
October 13 Final Fling
We are getting some free publicity. The City of Richland has feature our field on its community cable channel. Also, in a city flyer that accompanies the utility bill, was a drawing of a model and the caption "Where in Richland do people fly model airplanes?"
Prior to the election of 2001 officers, nominations from the floor were called for. There were no nominations from the floor. Jerry Wallis gave a short campaign speech after which voting took place. The results of the election were:
President Gordon Anderson
Vice President Jerry Wallis
Secretary Doug Larson
Treasurer Rick Magnuson
There is no meeting in December, but there will
be a December newsletter. The next meeting will be the annual banquet on
Saturday, January 13, 2001 staring at 6:00 p.m. at Roy’s Western Smorgy. The
December newsletter will provide details and a reminder of the gift exchange.
Bob McDougall suggested that the new year’s lock combination give given out with the new membership cards instead of with the newsletter. This would eliminate essentially the preparation of two different newsletters and the problem of getting the combination to members that get their newsletter from the Internet.
Larry Mitchell reminded the Club that at the November meeting the Club was to determine what to do for Puyallup. After some discussion, Larry and Don Hall will select and obtain a suitable raffle item costing around $200.
The meeting was adjourned.
