JULY
2001 MEETING MINUTES
By Rick Magnuson for Doug Larson
President Gordon Anderson called the meeting to order with 12 members present.
The minutes of the June meeting was approved as published in The Leading Edge. The Treasurer’s report was given and Ted, once again, did another super job publishing The Leading Edge.
The Club has been working with the City to fix some spots that aren’t getting watered. Different nozzle sizes have been tried, but the problem seems to be wind, reduced water pressure (pumps are older and have some wear) and placement of existing sprinklers. A new sprinkler is going to be installed at the West end of the safety fence as an experiment. If it proves successful, then it will be made into a permanent installation.
The Club will meet, at the field, with the City to review the Club’s desire to fence the black top parking lot to prevent damage at the edges.
The City cannot help the Club with serving the outhouse.
A suggestion was made that member’s sign up for lawn mowing assignments as they renew their memberships. This would reduce the need for the “lawn chief” to telephone members each spring.
The Club’s name will be added to the South side of the sun shield building.
The July pattern contest went well. Several Club members assisted at the Yakima’s club Folk Life festival helping young flyers build, then fly Delta Darts.
Several Club members will bring their war birds to an air show at Fairchild Air Force Base. Also, Club members are welcome to attend the Pasco Airshow.
The August 3rd ARC event was discussed. Bill Greger reviewed the happenings of the fourth annual event. Bill Bowen will soon be getting press releases out.
The 5-year ORV plan is on schedule. Two new instructors were approved: Brett Bowen and Dave Phipps.
Signs will be installed in the shade shelter informing spectators not to proceed past the shelter into the pits.
The question of should the Club again have a raffle at Puyallup was raised. Also raised was the having a door prize/raffle at the annual awards banquet. There was discussion leading to that the Club should look into a park flyer for Puyallup. No final decision on the annual awards banquet was made.
The August 15th meeting will be at the ORV field starting at 6:00 p.m. Members may bring food, as the BBQ will be fired up. A swap meet will also take place. Bill Bowen will talk about using the rudder, especially for takeoffs.
