JAN 2004 MEETING MINUTES
By Doug Larson

Banquet Meeting
1/10/2004
Roy's Western Smorgy

Welcome - President Gordon Anderson welcomed the attendees and introduced the evening program. Attendance was light, probably because of the poor road conditions and cold weather. The food was good and the company was excellent.

Recognition - Gordon presented some awards to the previous year's leadership team, Jerry Wallis, Doug Larson and Fred Fisher. A significant mention was made of the support from the ORV Park staff this past summer that did an excellent job of keeping water on the grass. The field was the much healthier this last season than in previous years. A club lifetime award was presented in absentia to Bill Greger for his support of the club, new members and especially the ARC event which he has done for many years. Recognition was voiced for Steve Sterling and his excellent student instructor program, web site and video presentations at banquets. Ted Tanasse is appreciated for his professional arrangement of the club monthly newsletter.

2003 Event Summary - The past year events, May Fun Fly, Heli Event, ARC event, Pattern Contest, BiPlane/big bird and almost final fling. Other events during the year: CD training class, 5 new CDs', bylaws update, executive board alive again, new 5 year contract with the city in progress and the Bowens went to the NATS, Brett placed 4th in advanced pattern and Bill also placed but not as good as Brett. Good work father and son.

Coming Events - Northwest Model Expo at Puyallup, Jan 31- Feb 1. There will be a club booth again and raffle.

Significant Awards - Clyde Crash Cup was hotly contended for, second runners up were Bill Bowen and Dennis Cone for their lottery winning (losing) midair collision, what a sad day that was. The real winner though was Fred Stong. Fred must have had a bad year but then we all take our turn at losing airplanes. Solo Awards were presented to Bruce Davis and Norm Pomeroy.

New Leadership Team - The new club president is Dennis Cone and VP is Bill Bowen, Secretary and Treasurer same as last year. Dennis Cone said a few words about his new role and thanked Gordon Anderson for his outstanding leadership over the last three years. Dennis also indicated that recruiting new members would be one of his goals in the coming year.

Entertainment - The banquet attendees were treated to Model Airplane Review 1954-1960 from video footage by Fred Stong. His collection of 8mm movie footage was converted to a VHS tape which we all enjoyed. It was interesting to see people and airplanes from 50 years ago, thanks Fred. Fred also brought a display of old radio equipment which was very interesting for us less seasoned fliers. Gordon Anderson also brought a "foamie" electric to display. The airplane has very light construction and great performance with the lithium ion battery. There was a short gift exchange and raffle drawing at the end.
