APRIL '99 MEETING MINUTES
By Rick Magnuson

President Ron Gibby called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. There were 20 members present, including new member Don Paddock, and one guest.

Ron Gibby passed onto Larry Mitchell the Club’s wishes with the loss of Kathy.

The March minutes were approved as published in The Leading Edge. Clee Childress gave the Treasurer’s report. Ron talked about the need to have a cash-backed budget for items that require periodic replacement such as the lawn mowers. Clee will set up the process. It was brought up to consider in the budget/5 year plan that the northeast (right side) fence could be moved down the hill, lessening the chance of planes hitting it on takeoffs and landings.

It was mentioned that this will most likely be the last year for the Finley field, as the school has added new fencing and the planned Finley-I82 road connection would pass under the overfly area.

Ron appointed Dennis Cone as the official Club delegate with the City of Richland. Club members should contact Dennis (and Ron to keep him informed) about any problem. Dennis will be the only person that should talk with the city about any problems, such as with the sprinklers. This will provide for consistent problem resolution and maintain good relations with the city staff.

Old Business

Erection of the ORV storage shed was started. Larry Mitchell was instrumental in getting the pad in place. Several members prepared the site and with Lee Brooks’ assistance poured the concrete pad. The building will go up beginning next week after work hours. A motion was made by Larry Mitchell, seconded by Jerry Wallis, to purchase a two foot building extension. The motion did not pass. There was a discussion of bringing electrical power to the field. It is in the 5 year plan for this year.

This year’s lawn cutting schedule was published in The Leading Edge. Terry Hane has suggested that the north side of the field not be cut each week but rather when the grass gets too high or just before an event. This will save time in cutting the grass and will result in less wear on the mower.

The combination locks were changed this past Monday. Members were informed of the new combination in the April issue of The Leading Edge.

Bill Greger visited the HAMMER facility. He reported that the layout would not allow us to safely give a flight demonstration during the June college/high school project competition. To allow safe flying at the ORV field during the 3 day competition, we will pull the pins for those frequencies to be used at HAMMER.

New Business

With the Club’s web site, the Listbot feature and the Broken Prop Award waiting for a new owner, there was the perception of too much emphasis on reporting accidents, although the intent was light hearted. There will be less "assistance" in helping the

current award holder keep apprised of who is deserving of the award.

Dennis Cone will fix the pop up sprinklers

Bill Greger gave a status report of the upcoming ARC event. The date is not yet firm but should be in late June or early July.

Rob Opgenorth showed off his new Giles 202. Bob McDougall built this plane and the covering job is simply outstanding!

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
