Next Club Meeting August 18, 7pm at Rosie's Diner. 404 Bradley Blvd, Richland just off Geo. Wash Way.

We have rather lost touch with Rich Roland since he has not been a club member for a few years. The following is from Marlys ?, sad development: I don't know who Marlys is but she sent this to Mrs. Frank Hirsch and forwarded to me Via Rudy Higgins.
"I was just wondering if you didn't know Richard Roland? He was the one who had the small boat and would put it in the water during the flying meets.. Jr. knew him from that club. He had lots of planes and all kinds of other remotes. Would go to all the meets. Well I have very sad news.. He lives or now lived across the street from me. He committed suicide last night at 11:30. He had been working on his trailer and boat all day in the back yard.. I was thinking he was getting ready for a meet or something. At 11:30 I was here in spare bedroom which faces his house and I heard a loud thud.. thinking someone hit the side of my house, I got up and went to the front door and looked outside.. nothing there. They didn't find him till late this morning. He went out on his back
patio and sat in a lawn chair and shot himself...head shot. You never know..I just wished I'd been a better neighbor and taken him all my leftovers.. He was broke and no food. at least that's the way it looks.
I know that wasn't the only reason for him to shoot himself. He was going through a depression from when his mother passed away not too long ago. He got the home which was paid for, which was nice till he lost his job and couldn't find another.
I have a sad heart tonight.. which in tale makes me think of Jr. they both liked the remotes.

I looked back in the photo
I looked back in the photo archives here on the website and found a whole album of pictures of Rich Roland and his airplanes. If you have other pictures, please add them (upload) to the album. It is very easy, but you have to be register-- and that is simple and immediate-- see menu on left.

Ahh-- what terrible news. I
Ahh-- what terrible news. I considered Rich a very good friend. Loved flying with him. The last time I saw him face to face was at the MAA Indian Summer Jamboree. He was certainly frustrated about the job situation. What a bummer.
Here is the buddy I like to remember
