Lawn Mower Update
Both mowers are out of commission for the next couple days. See note below for details, but basically several of the cutting deck spindles have bad bearings.
This last weekend I was able to perform the following maintenance
on the two riding mowers:
Cub Cadet Mower
================
Change oil
Change oil filter
Instal
l new air filter
Grease steering fittings
Change spark plugs
Set tire air pressure
Sears Mower
=====================
Change oil
Change oil filter
Grease steering fittings
Change spark plug
Set tire air pressure
Replace missing lift rod knob
Today I was going to remove the cutting blades for sharpening, but found issues.
The Cub Cadet mower has bad spindle bearings on the center blade. Also, the three cutting blades are so dull I could not tell which side was doing the cutting. I'll pick up the bearings and rebuild the spindle next weekend, if not sooner. I'll also either pick up new blades or try to sharpen these dull ones.
The Sears mower has bad bearings in both cutting deck spindles. I have the bearings on-hand and will replace them next weekend as well. The cutting blades on this mower are not too bad, but I'll have them sharpened anyhow.
Sharp blades will put less stress on the drive belts and spindles.
I swept out the shed and placed some fresh rat poison to keep the critters at bay, and left a corn-broom in the shed for future cleaning as it's easier to use that the larger broom. I tossed the old bicycle pump as it had several leaks and was not serviceable, but will replace it shortly. I also left 3 quarts of oil in the shed for topping off the mowers as needed.
See you at the field!
