In the February 2010 issue of QST, a magazine for amateur radio or "hams," there is an article about RC planes and, naturally, RC radios. In this article the outstanding work by our own Gordon Anderson is highlighted. Gordon has developed a process to the old Ace RC radios to allow the pilot to tailor the radio to his specific needs. The article even lists Gordon’s web site, www.mstar2k.com. Way to go Gordon!

Thanks Rick!
This has been a 10 year project that I have really enjoyed. I have a couple of guys in Texas building and selling kits and doing custom work for pilots. Peter Carr is a long time MicroStar user and has been flying my encoder for several years. I have lots of updates and new features in the works. Too bad I can't make any money doing this!

Gordon is quite the multi-faceted fellow. I know he designs all kinds of gizmos.
Rick, are you an active ham? We have quite a few hams in the club, but I only knew of Gordon and me that actually use it beyond 50Mhz RC. If you are reading QST, you might be active!

Hi Steve,
An active ham? Not really. Way back when I was in junior high I went thru a period of electronics. I built some Heathkits and Knight kits (Allied Radio out of Chicago). And started to study for the Novice license. Never got pass the code. Then when I moved to the Tri-Cities tried again with the code, practicing during lunch. Never completed it as something got in the way, as in RC planes!
Anyway, since the FCC changed the license process, I took the test for the Technician license. Piece of cake! Went to a ham swap meet last year in Puyallup and bought a 2 meter hand held transreceiver. I have listen in on a weekly net but have yet to transmit. With cell phone and the internet, the magic of ham radio isn't there for me. Or more to the point, today’s ham gear is functionally great, but pricey. I rather buy more RC stuff than say a multi-band vertical antenna.
Thanks to your work I go to this site many times a week to keep up with everyone in "God's Country." And some day I'll be back for CFS (I think my program disk is shot as I tried running it on three different PCs).
Give my best to Linda and hope to see you all this summer/fall.

Hi Rick,
First thanks for the news about Gordon. Welcome back to the world of Ham radio. For Christmas I got a new 2 meter rig for my van. It's not installed as yet, but am looking forward to talking to hams again. The repeater system may take some learning; may even need a laminated info sheet. Being able to connect all over the Northwest while traveling to pattern meets last summer was a hoot.
Looking forward to your visit, Linda, WB7CNV
